Excellent family meal eating in the outdoor seating in the middle of Liberty. All food choices were tasty and fresh with creative combinations of flavors. Staff was friendly and professional with strong pandemic protocols in place. We will definitely be back.
No matter what meal you go for, Grange's rotating menu with farm-to-Table selections and fresh ingredients, stellar service, and options for outdoor seating are sure to make for a satisfying dining experience. After going for brunch and being more than satisfied with the delicious hash, my most recent trip was for dinner one weekend evening. I highly recommend reservations, particularly in the nice weather when you may want to sit outside to enjoy your meal. On a pleasant spring evening, a friend and I headed over for a late dinner. After taking our seats outside, our server took our drink orders, and I went for the Virgin Ginger Fizz. It was a perfect mix of fresh flavor and effervescence that complemented the rest of my meal. We started with the Scotch Eggs, a favorite of mine, and I think it's a new favorite of my friend's as well. Dinner for me was trout, which was so perfectly cooked that it melted like butter. Accompanied by leeks and a light green sauce, it hit the spot for a little summer dinner. For your next night out, or a filling weekend brunch, give Grange a try!
We were in Ann Arbor for just one night and found Grange online. It was easy to make a reservation and we were looking forward to a nice, relaxing dinner before heading to a concert. We had no idea the treat we were in for! Because we had tickets to a show, our reservations were for early on a Saturday evening and we arrived not long after opening. We were greeted warmly by the hostess and I was immediately struck by the ambiance of the space: exposed brick walls, butcher paper-covered tables, very intentional lighting choices, and seating that felt intimate even though there's plenty of seating. Our server, Kimberly, arrived promptly was happy to explain the overall concept an answer any questions we had. We made our orders and then the fun began. We were served a basket of bread and butter while we made our decisions, and it was actually quite good. As we were there early, our entrees came fairly quickly and we were both very pleased. I had the pork loin and oyster mushrooms over grits and was thoroughly impressed with how perfectly-cooked every element of the dish was. The pork was tender, juicy, and incredibly flavorful. The grits were creamy, with a nice chew, and tender. Every single bite of the dish was packed with flavor was a perfect accompaniment to the fall weather that was setting in. My partner had the local wheat berries and was similarly impressed. The bite I tried was tender and packed with tasty, roasted-vegetable goodness. We were having such a lovely experience and had the time, so we decided to order dessert: chocolate pudding with basil ice cream. Just let that concept sink in. The pastry chef was truly inspired here - dark chocolate pudding that wasn't overly sweet, ice cream that captured the essence of basil, and garnishes that included dark chocolate crumbles and small bites of micro basil. This has to be in the top five desserts we've ever had. The service and experience was stellar, as was the food. We felt like we'd won the lottery picking Grange and would absolutely love to return if we find ourselves in Ann Arbor again.
It has been a long while since revisiting this restaurant; I think it experienced a minor facelift. The exposed brick walls, irregular and scarred, warmed up the space, adding charm and character. A friend and I stopped in during Restaurant Week to enjoy the special dinner menu. I had already scoped out the menu online prior to arriving and was looking forward to the meal ahead. Grange offered a choice of starters, either a soup or salad, and a choice of entrées for an accessible price. To start, we enjoyed the duck confit poutine, from the bar menu. The crispy fries were topped with fresh cheese curds, duck, and subtly flavored sage gravy. The portion was too large to finish, even though we picked at it while enjoying the rest of the meal. I have never had fried green tomatoes before but have been curious since reading about them. The gritty coating was savory and crunchy, packing a lot of flavor in the hot and spicy, paper-thin crust. Also available were a duck and chicken liver mousse, as well as a whitefish pierogi. For the second course, I selected a salad with char grilled asparagus and sherry vinaigrette. Also available was a green tomato gazpacho. I was more than full before the entrée arrived, a delicate and aromatic lake trout. The portion was nicely sized (very generous for the price), served with wilted greens. Given the poutine that I had earlier, I was glad for the heavenly yet healthy/light dish, even though I could only sample a few bites. I had to save room for dessert! We both decided on the flourless chocolate cake. It contrasted nicely with the tangy crème fraîche and spearmint ice cream. The latter reminded me of toothpaste, both in taste and shape - sorry. Our server was fantastic. Every moment was gracious and friendly. I felt that she went out of her way to provide us with a first-rate experience.
Neatly sandwiched between the Pacific Rim and the Old Town Bar on West Liberty, the Grange Kitchen and Bar provided the perfect backdrop for a very enjoyable brunch with close friends on a sunny Father's Day in the Deuce. With its doors swinging open at precisely 10:00 am on this Sunday morning, it didn't take long for this popular farm-to-table venue to fill up with hungry diners. The first thing I noticed as we took our seats around a comfortable 4-top was the Mamas and the Papas singing their iconic 1965 hit California Dreaming on the house sound system. I thought to myself, as other classic rock anthems played on, that this was so "Ann Arbor" where many of the restaurants are owned or operated by aging hippies. Nice touch Grange. The Moody Blues are always welcome to compliment my eggs. With Mimosas raised for a spirited Father's Day toast, each of us chose a different offering from the brunch menu including the Steak & Eggs, a Market Veggie Omelette, the Breakfast Tacos and a Plate of Market Veggie Hash. Judging by our soon-to-be completely empty plates, we all loved our meals. I can personally vouch for the Breakfast Tacos made w/ house chorizo, cheddar, scrambled eggs and salsa verde and wrapped in locally made tortillas...a totally satisfying breakfast experience and one I can highly recommend. It doesn't get much better than breaking bread with friends at the Grange. Four big ones.
Wanna earn the coveted Yelp badge of "Worst Parent of Ann Arbor"? (Apparently, I am already public enemy #1 on the AAPS PTO ultra-PC/SJW eco-weenie hipster douchebag blacklist)! Serve your vermin spawn a plate of the Grange's yummy and decadent duck fat french fries! My kids friends' parents (militant vegans) think I am the anti-christ now! The food is fantastic and the service is fast. The menu changes depending on what is available. I have enjoyed the Grange burger with duck fat fries, roast duck, and the fish offerings. Great for weekend brunch or special occasions unless you have bags of cash lying around and you can afford to come enjoy here everyday! Enjoy and bookmark this west side gem! Parking in the city lot next block over. Easy!
